Sony Pictures announced today that it’s making a 3D film showcasing London-based global music sensation One Direction. Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) will direct the film, which TriStar Pictures will release on August 30, 2013 (Labor Day weekend).

Yesterday Reel Film News had an opportunity to speak to writer/director Michael J. Bassett about his upcoming film, SILENT HILL REVELATION 3D, set to open this weekend.  Set as a follow-up to 2006 hit, SILENT HILL, the film tells the story of Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) and her father (Sean Bean) who have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand.  On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is.  The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.  In the interview, Mr. Bassett and I address the trend of film adaptations being made from videogames, the challenges of (more…)

Day 2 of the Spooky Movie International Film Festival offered a unique experience as the first full length feature that night came in the form of a filmed live theatre performance.  What film do I speak of? PLAY DEAD, of course!  Co-Directed by famed silent magician Teller and Shade Rupe, the film is inspired by the American spook show, an underground form of entertainment that occurred between 1930s and 1970s.  In the film, Coney Island showman Todd Robbins thrills a live audience with gory, ghastly spectacles based on real-life killers and psychic pranksters.  Following an entertaining Q & A, that including a impressive magic act from Teller, Reel Film News  took the opportunity to pick the brains of Teller and Shade Rupe concerning the evolution of the off-Broadway show (of the same name) to the big screen, the history of spook shows, and their respective future projects.  Check it out! Opening night of the Spooky Movie International Film Festival  started off with a bang as Reel Film News was in attendence to see the twisted film, EXCISION, open the Festival.  The film, directed by Northern Viriginia native Richard Bates Jr.,  tells the story of alienated teen Pauline (AnnaLynne McCord),who struggles with the pressures of fitting into high school, pleasing her parents and a burning desire to lose her virginity. Yesterday Reel Film News participated in a press conference with actress Anne Heche about her role in the comedy, THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID.
